Borders Melons East - Traceability
The "United Fresh Produce Association" in conjunction with the "Produce Marketing Association" and the "Canadian Produce Marketing Association" is developing a standardized produce trace back system which will enhance the speed and efficiency of produce traceability systems in the future.
The Produce Traceability Initiative ( PTI ) has a bold vision which outlines a course of action to achieve supply chain wide adoption of electronic traceability of every case of produce by the year 2012. Borders Melons East has done extensive research and is already prepared with a solution for 2009.
Through a partnership with HarvestMark® we are now offering product level traceability as an online service. Any customer can type in the unique HarvestMark® code, without login or password, from any of our watermelon labels, and determine where that melon came from as well as learn about Borders Melons East. Retailers will have a custom login for additional information and feedback about the product.
Reuters Press Release
In addition to providing general information on our company and our products, this detailed traceability program will provide the specific information needed to quickly identify the source of a product in the event there is ever a food safety related question, or product recall which arises.
We look forward to continued participation in the Produce Traceability Initiative, and working with everyone in the fresh produce industry as we continually monitor food safety in our efforts to deliver the safest and freshest food possible to the consumer.
